Shipping - Rules List

Shipping Rules are the calculations which allow the determination of shipping rates for the various products in your online boutique. The calculation of shipping costs can get quite complex and dakis recommends to start with simpler shipping calculations at first which you can fine tune over time.

When calculating shipping rates for items in a shopping cart, the dakis system will look for the most specific rule possible which apply to an item in this order:

1) Item level rules (Products / Print Formats / Gift Products)
2) Category level rules
3) Application level rules (Hardware / Photo / Gifting)
4) Global Rule

1) Item Level Rules

The individual item shipping rules can be viewed and edited from the Merchandise Rules / Print Rules and Gift Rules pages. It's important to note that the nomenclature varies somewhat between the pages to reflect the type of items sold by those applications. New item level rules can't be created in the shipping pages, they must be created directly on the item edit pages.

Note the search bar and pagination when you are looking for a specific shipping rule, these are helpful tools.

Also note the expand and collapse arrows by the product name which allows you to view the specific shipping rates for this item.

To edit a rule, click on the PENCIL in the range. This will open up the shipping rule range modal in which you can set the shipping to FREE or charge a combination of flat rate / per item rate and percentage of product value. To add a type of charge, click on ADD CHARGE near the bottom and select the type from the drop down.

2) Category Level Rules

The category level rules are the rules that will apply to an item or a group of items in a cart when these items have no product level rules applied.

The category rules, like the product level rules, exist in each of the merchandise rules / print rules and gift rules pages. They can be viewed and edited on those pages, but creation is only possible on the category pages directly.

On category rules you can also set a PRICE RANCE, allowing you to vary the shipping rule in function of how much dollar value of this category is in the cart. In the above example, any combination of digital cameras above $1000 would incur no basic shipping costs.

3) Application Level Rules

Application level rules apply to items or groupes of items in a cart that don't have item level rules nor category level rules.

These rules are are found in the merchandise rules / print rules and gift rules pages and have specific nomenclature for each application.
