Creating a $ Discount Shopping Cart Promotion
A Cart $ Discount promotion will reduce the sub-total of each shopping carts by a defined dollar value. This will affect any product the customer will add to the shopping cart. A Cart $ Discount promotion can be tied up to a promotional code that the customer must enter during checkout. If you choose not to use a promotional code, all customers will get the promotion in their shopping cart.
There are four types of promotions. The first is the item promotion. This type of promotion allows you to choose which product it will apply to by going to the promotion section of an item and adding the promotion to the item. If not matched with coupon or membership promotions, this type of promotion will be available to everyone who selected a product linked with this promotion.
The next type of promotion you can create are cart promotions. Similarly to item promotions, if these are not associated with coupons or memberships, these will be available to all your customers.
However, the difference between item and cart promotions is that you will not be able to link any product to the cart promotion. Once the cart promotion is created and not associated with coupons or memberships, it will apply to everyone's cart no matter what they are ordering.
The next type of promotion that can be used are coupon promotions. These promotions use either cart or item promotions but only allow people with coupons to use them. There are two ways to link item and cart promotions to a coupon promotion. But first, here is how to create the coupon promotion
The final type of promotions are membership promotions. These work like the coupon promotions except that it allow customers to use their code more than once.
